10 Best Fantasy Books That Will Fire Up Your Imagination

There is a huge number of fantasy books readers as it provides something quite different from all the other genres of literature. It provides the reader with an opportunity to get out of their real-world and to feel a new world with a different and wondrous nature. It provides its, readers, with a way out of their current reality into a world without any troubles and pain.

And being a fantasy reader, we try to read the best fantasy books possible which provide the most visual experience into the new world and helps the reader loosen up. I’ve done some personal research and come up with some books that have influenced their readers the most and I’m not focusing entirely on their franchise so I would also tell you the name of the book from every franchise that I think has been the best in the series.

10 Best Fantasy Books Ever Written

Harry Potter

This series of fantasy fiction books were written by J. K. Rowling. And amongst all other books, I think every fantasy reader might’ve gone through this franchise at least once, especially after its movie series was released. In this series, there are 8 books out of which the seventh book has two parts which officially makes it a seven-book franchise. This series of books rolls around a character named Harry Potter, who’s a brilliant magician and who always stands by what’s right. He is accompanied by his two friends, Ron and Hermione who help him pull through the worst of issues and live a quite adventurous life in the wizarding world.

This series depicts their journey through Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and how with the help of their professors and friends, they defeat all evil and save the world from the darkest of forces.

Out of this series, my favorite two books are the fifth and the sixth books of the series which are The Order of The Phoenix and The Half-Blood Prince, respectively.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I like this book as most of the real wizarding world was introduced in this book where the battle between good and evil actually started and the dark character named Voldemort was elaborated with his powers. Although the end of this book is quite saddening as Harry Potter loses his godfather, Sirius Black, pad foot.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

This is one of the jolliest books of the series and it shows how teenage Harry battles through the year to accomplish a task given to him by Headmaster Dumbledore. His journey of completing this task is quite interestingly imaginable. This book brings in a piece of key information about the dark character of the series that helps Harry defeat him. Although, we lose Dumbledore at the end of this book right before we find out that Professor Snape is the Half-Blood Prince.

After this book, the theme of this franchise goes dark.

The Chronicles of Narnia

This novel franchise was created by C. S. Lewis and was one of the fantasy movies like Harry Potter which was later, cinematized. This series contains three books and revolves around a group of 4 brothers and sisters who later on go on to become kings and queens of a magical land called Narnia. There is also a magical lion, named Aslan that helps them throughout their quests in different ways.

There are several negative characters in this series too as the books proceed and there are a total of 3 books in this franchise. Out of these 3 books, the second one is my favorite and its name is Prince Caspian.

The Chronicles of Narnia- Prince Caspian

The Chronicles of Narnia- Prince Caspian

This is my favorite book of the franchise as it introduces a few new characters and shows their journey through the book in a very different way than the first one. It shows a relatively modern Narnia than the one where the little Kings and Queens once lived. There seem to have a relative extinction in the Narnian species and which is why they had to stay hidden for the most part of their lives. In the end, the Kings and Queens, power through and win all over again.

The Twilight Saga

This is another series of books that were later turned into a movie franchise. The set of books was written by Stephanie Meyer. These revolve around three main characters, one girl and two guys who are both in love with the girl and are also mythological creatures of the opposite kind. The book slowly introduces both the male characters one by one in the first two books and then they fight against other forces by uniting with each other.

In my opinion, the last two books are my favorite.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

In this book, both the male characters unite to protect their love against an enemy named Victoria. Here, one of the male characters is a vampire and the other one is a werewolf. They both fight against Victoria who is also a vampire and she’s raised a powerful newborn army to kill Isabella Swan which is the main female character of this series. They succeed in killing Victoria and her army of newborns with the help of their family and clans.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn

This book is also one of my favorites as it introduces a lot of different characters with unique abilities and they all rise against to fight the Volturi against a false acquisition that may slaughter the entire coven of the Cullens. This book also introduces the daughter of the main characters Isabella and Edward. Her name is Renesmee and she is half human and half vampire and she possesses the opposite powers of both her parents. This book was the end of the twilight saga’s book series.

A Song of Ice and Fire

This is the novel series on which the popular television series, “Game of Thrones” is based upon and it is written by the brilliant author, George R. R. Martin. This series revolves around the great houses of Westeros. There are seven or eight major houses of Westeros which are the Baratheons, the Starks, the Tyrells, the Martells, the Tullys, the Targaryens, the Lannisters, and the Greyjoys. They revolve around an iron throne made of swords and fight each other to acquire it. The best book according to me for this series would be “A storm of Swords”.

A Song of Ice and Fire: A Storm of Swords

A Song of Ice and Fire: A Storm of Swords

This was the most loved book of this series by almost every GOT fan. George R. R. Martin won our hearts with this book and made us believe that he’s one of the best writers around. He accommodated some of the best and worst incidents in this book and it turned out to be really interesting. The author executed one of the most impossible tasks in this book. He made Jaime Lannisters one of the best and most loved characters in this book. Also, this book contained the red wedding, the wedding of Joffrey and Margaery, the wedding of Tyrion and Sansa, and so many more checkpoints of the Game of Thrones history.

The Lord of the Rings

While talking of the best fantasy books, how can we forget the Lord of the Rings series! This series is quite followed by its fans and it was also cinematized shortly after its books were released. We can see its fan following at comic cons over how people dress up as its characters and have fun.

This series consists of 4 books, it was written by J. R. R. Tolkien, and the story revolves around 20 power rings that were created by elven smiths except for one which was created by the dark lord, Sauron. The ring created by Sauron was in an attempt to rule all the other rings.

I still remember the well-known statement from the series, “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them”.

Although it’s quite difficult to choose, my favorite book from this series would be The Hobbit.

The Hobbit

the hobbit

It is my favorite book out of the series because it gives us an introduction to the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf the Wizard, Gollum, and Smaug the Magnificent who was a cruel dragon.

It also introduced readers to the world of middle-earth. It told us a lot of adventurous tales and was quite beautifully written by the author.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

This book was written by Lewis Carroll. And it revolves around a character named Alice who goes to sleep in a meadow and she has a dream that she follows a white rabbit into a rabbit hole. There she meets a lot of weird creatures and has a lot of adventurous experiences with them. She could change sizes in an unexpected manner.

She is also called in to witness at the trial of Knave of hearts who was accused of stealing the Queen’s tarts. But as things turned out, the Queen wanted to have Alice beheaded which is when she starts to realize that all these characters are a pack of cards that awoke her from the dream.

The Magicians

the magicians

This is a very fascinating book on fantasy. It is written by Lev Grossman.  It is about a boy who does magic in the real world.

It circles around a boy who is moving into adulthood and is still fantasizing about his favorite novels as a kid which is set up in an imaginary place called Fillory. He’s a brilliant but miserable kid who’s a senior in high school. He gets admitted to a college in New York which is exclusive and teaches sorcery.

He discovers everything that happens in the life of a normal teenager but soon he realizes that something is missing and magic can’t satisfy him anymore. But he graduates and then finds out about the existence of Fillory but it is as dark as the real world. It’s a must-read book but it’s basically for adults only.

Good Omens

And someone misplaced the Antichrist. In such a situation Aziraphale, an angel, and Crowley, a demon, have to do everything in their power to save the world as they love their lifestyle on Earth amongst the mortals.
