More details The Tropic of Cancer was first published in 1934 and banned for obscenity. Now that we read it,the reasons for the ban are hard to see. The story, barely disguised as the diary of Henry Miller, follows his abandoned and impoverished life in Paris.

The writing has a flow in it, as if written in huge chunks, than in various little pieces. We get to see Paris in great abandon. The sexual encounters are more suggested than graphically detailed. Found it breezy and very readable, but certainly not a classic.
