More details The Enemy is a critically acclaimed literary work of the prolific writer and novelist Lee Child. The Enemy is often considered to be one of the most sophisticated literary works of the gifted writer. If you have read other books by Lee Child, then you would surely agree that The Enemy is the author’s best written books so far. The story of this novel is a departure of sorts as it traces Jack Reacher while he is still serving in the army instead of following Reacher who was the former military hobo. Reacher is fired from his post when he was posted in Panana and now transferred in North Carolina. His transfer collides with New Year’s Eve. This is believed to be a well-planned, strategic repositioning by someone whose identity is not yet revealed. When he is enjoying the New Year celebrations in the MP’s office, he is summoned to a run-down hotel where a two star general is killed. Hide details

More details The year is 1989. A two-star Army General, Ken Kramer, is found dead in a North Carolina motel, apparently believed to have suffered a stroke. Military Police Major Jack Reacher investigates, and comes to the conclusion that the woman Kramer was with has stolen his Army briefcase.
Reacher and a female assistant, Lieutenant Summer, travel to inform Mrs. Kramer of her husband's death. However, when they arrive, it turns out the house has been broken into and Mrs. Kramer has been murdered with a crowbar.
Reacher goes to a bar across the street from the motel to find out who the hooker was, and creates some trouble when he gets into a fight with the owner, shattering his knee. Afterwards, the motel receptionist informs Reacher that he heard a military vehicle leaving after Kramer's death, and Reacher concludes that the woman Kramer was with is a female officer.
The book introduces new characters - General Vassell and Colonel Coomer, and later their errand boy, Major Marshall. It becomes clear that they are hiding something, related to an agenda for a meeting that was in Kramer's briefcase.
More action follows with the death of two soldiers. Reacher comes under suspicion. But talented Reacher soon uncovers the truth. The collapse of Soviet communism, the inevitable downsizing in the Army, and the power struggle emerge as the cause of a serious plotting that led to the killing of Kramer.
Again an action packed thriller worth reading!
