More details The hype around Chetan Bagat’s book ‘The 3 Mistakes of My Life’ is understandable. His previous works, Five Point Something and One Night @ The Call Center are runaway hits. They still dominate book store top ten lists in fiction across the country.

And indeed they are well-written, simple and interesting stories with the right message to appeal to today’s youth. Five Point Something inspired other campus stories including Above Average, Watch Out We Are MBA, Anything For You Madam etc. So it is natural to have huge expectations from ‘The 3 Mistakes of My Life’. And that was the only mistake of all Chetan Bhagat Fans. Like mutual fund disclaimers this is true – past performance is not an indicator of future returns.
I finished ‘The 3 Mistakes of My Life’ in 3 hours. The first thought after reading it was that the author seemed confused. I was at a loss to what the author wanted to convey. The book is full of stereotypes and not in the same league as the first two books. The book is about 3 friends and is set in Ahmedabad with a detour to Australia. It has popular themes like friendship, love, cricket, religion and business to make it a masala book. But it is not different nor presents any new perspective. Even if you do not read this book, you are not at a loss.
The 3 Mistakes of My Life just seemed to be a good marketing title. All the three are not mistakes in true sense. Of the three, two do not seem to error in judgement – but everyone needs to make those errors to grow up. And one mistake is repeated again and again, which does not make it a mistake but a habit.
The book grabs the life and colors of Amdavadi life in a very beautiful manner. The book will be popular in Ahmedabad as people can relate to it better and already Chetan Bhagat, Sudha Murthy are very popular in Ahmedabad. Also Big Bazaar’s Depot and other books stores are heavily promoting the book which has an attractive price tag of Rs 95.
The 3 Mistakes of My Life is readymade for Bollywood. Already, Chetan’s other books are in different stages of production in Bollywood and this is next in line.
Overall, the book is not extraordinary. However, Chetan Bhagat has made his place in Indian publishing history. And even great masters sometimes fail to live upto their usual high standards. It happens. Anyway, i are with you Chetan!

More details The three mistakes of my life is a book written by famous novelist Chetan bhagat. This book is a typical Chetan Bhagat emulsification of friendship and has character that reader can relate to almost instantly. This title has a certain suave that will initiate the excitement to read the book. The book revolves around a young lad Govind along with two of his friends Ishan and Omi. These youngsters invest in a cricket shop business to different reasons but luck seems to have something else in store for them. They have to battle society’s’ atrocities pertaining to political and social issues. The question is remains will young boys who have no knowledge of business traits survive the mayhem. An enjoyable and pleasurable book though the twist and turns seem a little absurd and out of place at certain interjections but on the whole the story is woven around mild and peachy characters. More details The 3 Mistakes of my Life is a popularly read third novel penned by the famous Indian writer Chetan Bhagat. More details chetan bhagat is an excellent writer, however this is not one of his best works. he has tried to put sex, drinks & drama where none could exist. so my opinion it was some what forced rather than natural outcome of complicated life we lead. The story seems disoriented at various locations & out of focus.

i also found it a little biased against the UNCLE. he has put too much effort in portraying his evilness which seems very impractical & at times forced.

so my advice is skip this & move on 2 states which is quite on the level of Chetan Bhagat but if you want a time pass novel & don't need the Chetan Bhagat level, it is an okay book.

More details After two best sellers, 5 point someone and one night at call centre, Chetan bhagat comes up with a story of three friends, Govind, Ishan and Omi set in Ahmedabad. Unlike his previous novels, the set up here is quite ambitious against real events like world cup and Godhra riots. Govind runs a cricket equipments shop with his two friends on a land provided by Omi’s uncle, Bittoo Mama. The story progresses when they meet a young boy Ali who possess a rare knack for Cricket. And then an event changes it all. Chetan has tried to blend themes like Business, Cricket and religion and the end result is not quite satisfying. It is unlike any Bhagat novel but retains the essence and humour of his previous works. There is a love story between Vidya, Ishan’s sister and Govind that runs parallel to story. Overall, it’s a good book and Chetan deserves applaud for picking up such issues. Worth a read. Hide details

A lame story of two friends from different sects and strata of society coming together bound by their love for cricket (I tell you, cricket is spelling doom for some people...but we can talk about that later).
Set in Gujrat, their lives face the calamities of earthquakes, riots, political hazards andthe like only to lead to a super lame climax.
What was the author thinking - "ki gabbar khus hoga...saabaasi dega" No way Jose!
Lame, Lame, Lame!
All the way!
Mr. Bhagat...Five Point Someone was decent. What happened to you after that? Did success hit your hard in the head?

More details I read this book. It is such a letdown… Chetan Bhagat has made use of a deadly combo in this novel - politics, cricket and religion, but unfortunately failed and failed miserably. Despite him writing about issues like caste, expensive education, extremism, violence and advent of malls the novel still fails to be interesting.

The story is presented through Govind’s eyes, a typical Gujrati who aspires to be a great business man. His friends Ish, an avid cricket player turned coach and Omi, the son of a priest. After graduation they open a cricket shop making big plans about the expansion of their business and future endeavors. But in the turbulent city of Gujrat they have to face everything from earthquakes, riots, religious politics and specially the consequences of their own mistakes.

I found the book tolerable initially, but after a few pages when the priest and politician uncle just spoils the novel. Especially the last bit where the uncle urges them to sacrifice the young Muslim boy’s life for political gains was unimaginable. Uff… I really wished Chetan Bhagat had applied his mind and given it a more sensible, believable end… this was simply uncalled for.

More details The 3 Mistakes of My Life is a typical potboiler about the friendship of three childhood friends namely, Govind, Ishaan and Omi and the problems they face against the backdrop of current events. Passion for cricket, rural politics, religious riots and first love entwine the lives of three teenagers in Ahmedabad in early 2000. The three friends open their Team India Cricket Shop in April 2000. Govind is the business-minded one. His kinship with mathematics and logic is why he also gives maths tuitions to earn money. He’s the story’s cynical storyteller. Ishaan (Ish) is the sports fanatic of the trio. His father earns a modest but stable income, and is always goading Ishaan to do something worthwhile. Omi is the follower and calming factor between Govind and Ishaan. His father is the temple priest but Omi doesn’t wish to follow in his father’s footsteps. Their business takes off successfully even against tumultuous events which include the Bhuj earthquake that strikes Gujarat in January 2001, killing thousands. Next are the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 followed by the bloody Godhra riots in 2002. All these events result in tragedy for the three friends.
Its easy to identify with Gopi, Ish and Omi because of their portrayal of the challenges and differences people face while chasing big dreams and more. The Narration retains momentum and is entertaining while you read it but don’t use logic/reasoning. Its an easy, time-pass kind of book where everyone lives happily ever after.

More details ‘The 3 mistakes of my life’ written by Chetan Bhagat is not inspired by his own life. Based on the lives of three teenagers in Ahmedabad in 2000 it has sentiment, romance, social message, business, small-town politics, relations, religion and even Cricket.
The book portrays how it feels when long held dreams crash into pieces owing to unexpected circumstances but also teaches how they can again be built upon by other people’s support and self determination and focus. Criticized for lack of intelligence or originality(as the ingredients are almost similar to his earlier two books ), 3 mistakes takes twists and turns which increasingly become absurd and difficult to swallow. Its success depends on it being an excellent page-turner.

More details The 3 Mistakes of my Life is the third novel written by Chetan Bhagat. Continuing with the Author’s tradition of weaving his tale around common identifiable characters, the novel follows the story of three friends and is based in the city of Ahmedabad in western India.

The treatment of the novel is as if it was based on real events. It’s in the year 2000, when a young boy called Govind dreams of starting a business. Together with his friends Ishaan and Omi, he starts a cricket shop though each has a different motive. However things are not that simple as they seem as our characters have to deal with matters like religious politics, earthquake, riots, unacceptable love and their own mistakes. The story is all about how they react, solve and live with those problems.

The novel combines all the major connects of the Indian public-politics, cricket and religion. Once again, Chetan highlights the major problems plaguing the society like expensive education, extremism and lack of development. The one liners are witty (‘A stupid telephone ended my first romantic conversation’), the comparisons unique and intriguing as usual. However, the novel loses out when it tries to sensationalize the plot much like a bollywood masala movie. After a certain stage, the darkness overtakes the humour and the use of profanity leaves you feeling disgusted. It’s as if you are watching a B grade movie and feel like leaving the theatre in the interval. Certainly, not one of Chetan’s best works!
