More details The book is an average read. It is about the story of 25 IIM Ahmedabad graduates who chose the rough road of entrepreneurship. The book is broadly divided into three sections - The Believers: IIM-A graduates who took the plunge straight out of IIM-A; The Opportunists: Who saw an opportunity and capitalized on it; The Alternate Vision: Social Entrepreneurs who cared about things beyond money.

Bansal’s book is written in a conversational format with the author having a conversation with an entrepreneur and a page of advice from the entrepreneur. There are many messages to be lerant from these successful enterpreneurs whop dared to dream and live their dream.

I loved the subject Bansal was working on, but did not like the exectution. I found the profiles of 25 IIM graduates very sketchy and not well-researched. Had she accomodated a fewer names, but fuller profiles, the book would have looked more researched and more thought provoking. Also, the author should have worked on the style of the narrative and the language. It is way too casual to be appreciated.

Stay Hungry Stay Foolish is an inspiring tale of 25 IIM Ahmedabad graduates who treaded upon their self made path, the path of entrepreneurship. Every one of them had in them what it takes to succeed in business, since they believed in the power of their dreams.

The Book is divided into three sections, namely, The Believers, The Opportunists and The Alternate Vision. The Believers section captures the tale of those people who always knew Entrepreneurship was their calling and persevered until they made it big! These include the likes of Sanjeev Bikhchandani (Naukri.com), R Subramanain (Subhiksha) and Shantanu Prakash (Educomp). The Opportunists are the ones who seized the opportunity with both hands, when given a chance and have never looked back since. The prominent among these are Deep Kalra (makemytrip.com) and Rashesh Shah (Edelweiss Capital). The ones gifted with Alternate Vision are truly social entrepreneurs who strive for the betterment of society and creative expression.

The book seeks to inspire young graduates to take up challenging and innovative ventures, and largely succeeds in doing so. Every entrepreneur covered offers advice to the budding entrepreneurs based on their experience and wisdom. The language is simple and the style narrative. The novel follows the adage: “Small is Beautiful”. However, the novel doesn’t connect with the common masses as the only people covered in the book are IIM A graduates. Moreover, the humour element is missing and you don’t feel the sort of excitement one would expect. Still, the book scores for its efforts and motives!

More details Here’s a book full of interviews – of 25 IIM grads taken by Rashmi Bansal (former IIM student), who broke the shackles of regular societal norms of staying happy with a campus placement or a secure job and went ahead to build empires that continue to inspire many geniuses.

It is a simple read with a lot of information (most of which is one-dimensional – the entrepreneur’s view/vision.) It covers quite a bit of their journey to the top and life through testing waters. Inspiring in bits and parts, but lacks novelty. Maybe a one-time read for a bit of inspiration in tough times.
