More details Apart from the usual romantic fiction novels that we usually read, this book definitely is a class apart. Newly wed Sancha joins her husband Aaron on the Sea Hyena and finds herself amidst 24 men. The crew had very recently witnessed the death of the chief cook which was thought to be a suicide. Later on, when a theft takes place on the ship, Sancha is intrigued and wonders whether the cook's death was indeed suicide or a well planned murder. Enter Raghav - an investigating officer and along with him, Sancha plans to get to the bottom of the weird activities going on the ship.
The book combines romance and suspense, two of my favorite genres. I liked the way in which Ismita has introduced about the officers in Merchant Navy, their lifestyle, the troubles they have to go through. Its definitely an answer to all those who thought that life in merchant navy is cool, classy and a cakewalk. I also liked the unique idea about the way each character becomes a narrator in each chapter. As in, instead of splitting the story in the conventional chapters format (where you find only one narrator), the author has made each character transform into a narrator in each chapter. This way the reader comes to know the perspective or the viewpoint of each character for the other.
About the suspense element in the book, I had expected a few more twists and turns and a few more links which would have added to the investigation before finally nailing the culprit. Overall, a good read and as I said, unique ideas put forth in the book. Would recommend this.

More details Loved this book… After reading the unpredictable end I was thoroughly surprised… and let me tell you it takes a lot to surprise me. This book is a true romantic thriller and the end is far from what I could have ever guessed. Though I love reading romance, I did not mind the book quickly changing its hue by concentrating on the murder mystery bit. The book has also focused a great deal on the emotional side of the characters which makes the characters so much more real. I felt like I know them and not like I am just reading or hearing about them.

Also, the book is funny in bits and pieces. Though it will not make you lol (laugh out loud) there will be a constant smile on your face for sure. And yes, the book is also quite enlightening. For instance, it told me a lot about the lives of those who are in the merchant navy – a world that I had never explored.

Debutant author Ismita Tandon Dhankher has done a brilliant job. Don’t understand why she is a ‘lesser known poet’ she deserves to be known for doing some great quality writing.

Sancha is recently wed to Chief Officer Aaron Andrews of the merchant navy and they decide to go together for one of his journeys, on board the Sea Hyena. Amongst more than twenty men, Sancha does catch the fancy of First Engineer Harsh Castillo, who is also Aaron’s best friend. The ship had recently witnessed the death of their chief cook (Gary) who was found dead in the meat locker. It was termed as an accident but when there’s a theft from the captain’s safe, things begin to puzzle Sancha. She takes it on her to investigate the mysteries. All the men come under her radar- including her husband. Clues point at people that she wouldn’t imagine being culprits. She finds herself at the cross roads of love, honesty and integrity. How the truth is revealed and what follows in Sancha’s life is for you all to read.
A new plot, a new setting and a refreshingly new perspective of life on board a ship. Sprinkled with humor and backed with ample research, the plot does not fade out. The author does full justice to the mystery and thriller setting that is supposed to be the crux of the novel. Decently paced, the simple language of the story shows the different perspectives of the characters. And all of them are finely etched.
A good read. As a debut writer Ismita shows tremendous maturity in her writing.
Rightly said, this is a romantic thriller that tests the bonds of love and marriage against a backdrop of suspense, intrigue and psychological undercurrents.

Spinning a fantastic mystery yarn around the life of sailors on board a vessel, Ismita has shown her knack for picking up finer details. Good observation skills and great writing ability reflect in her debut novel that is about certain criminal acts that happen aboard Sea Hyena. The only lady on board is the wife of a Chief Officer and she decides to investigate the theft. The previous crime had taken place before she came along. But as she digs up clues it seems that both the cases are related. And how!
Give it a read to appreciate good talent that still exists in our country.
