Harry Potter and the half-blood prince is the sixth novel of the popular series by J.K. Rowling. Having endured much more than a person could probably endure in a lifetime, Harry has proven himself worthy of the title ‘chosen one’ that has been forced on him since he was born.
It begins in darkness, bearing witness to the dark days ahead of wizards and muggles alike. Every morning Harry and his friends wake up fearfully lest anyone they were close to would have become a victim to Voldemort’s attacks. They return to Hogwarts to find that that Severus Snape had become the new Defence against the Dark Arts teacher, a place he always wanted, while Horace Slughorn had taken Snape's place as Potions master, giving Harry the chance to continue with his dream of being an auror as well as to excel in class with the help of the book of the ‘Half-blood Prince’. His training under Dumbledore to understand the mind set of Voldemort answers a lot of questions.
Rowling takes a journey through the human soul as previously static characters develop into life-like, dynamic individuals having to make choices between love, ambition, loyalty. It has dynamic characters, intense action and superb writing. Rowling has the rare ability to make us turn the pages, to weep—openly, with tears splashing—and a few pages later to laugh, at invariably good jokes.
