Official Review
This work of part fiction part non fiction is a masterpiece created by Leon Uris. This book which talks about the cause of a nation of Israel brings out with perfection and subtlety the urge among the Jewish community to form their own nation and fight for it.
The plot of the book stirs from the Czarist Russia and the cruelties meted out on Jews in That region. It highlights the need for the two brothers to walk all the way from Russia through the snow covered Alps till they reach their land of belonging. It describes how the brothers established a settlement and lived in harmony with the neighboring Arabs till the time British colonists came and tension started brewing between the Jewish and Arab settlements.
It was the period of Colonialism which triggered differences between two communities with such an intensity that it led to bloodshed. It prompted for the creation of separate Israel from Palestine. In the backdrop there are characters who trace their traumatic journey from the Nazi Europe's concentration camp to the refugee camps in Cyprus to their mass exodus to their own land.
This book is a detailed account of the political happenings around the world and how they led to the formation of Israel. The voting in the UN by different nations for the creation of nation.
