Description :
"Somewhere," muses Noah Calhoun, while sitting on his porch in the moonight, "there were people making love." The Notebook, a Southern-fried story of love-lost-and-found-again, revolves around a single time-honored romantic dilemma: will beautiful Allison Nelson stay with Mr. Respectability (to whom she happens to be engaged), or will she choose Noah, the romantic rascal she left so many years ago?

“Love, in these last and tender hours is sensitive and very pure.
Come morning light with soft-lit powers to awaken love that’s ever sure…”
-Noah, in winter for two, the Notebook.
In the early days of October 1946, Noah Calhoun stays in his plantation styled home in North Carolina, which he had bought immediately after the war had ended. After working hard during the day, in the evenings Noah used to sit in his porch trying hard to forget the scenes, horrors and the experiences of the war that he had been through. Though he tries hard but the ghosts from his past come haunting back to him during the nights. Back into time, 14 years ago, in the year 1932, exactly when Noah had graduated, he met a girl at the Neuse River Festival. To Noah it seemed he had found the true and perfect love of his life. But, unfortunately things did not seem to work out between them. The Girl is now long gone and Noah is quite persuade by the fact that he’ll never see her again. Is it exactly the way Noah seems it to be or will his past somehow creeps its way into the present…??
Nicholas Sparks quite astonishingly narrates an emotionally moving love story that touches the heart. It brings tears to our eyes at the catastrophe and happiness that is portrayed in Noah’s life. It’s an exceptionally well written, extraordinary and flamboyant story.

The story begins with the introduction of the male protagonist Noah Calhoun in a nursing home as an old man at the age of eighty. He spends his days visiting a woman who does not remember him and reading to her from a notebook containing memories of his life and love.
In the second scene of the book, Noah Calhoun has returned from a war and purchased his dream house in New Bern and sets himself to remodel it. We find out that his past includes a long lost love. Then it takes the reader back to the early days when Noah first met Allie Nelson, recollecting how the two of them fell in love. Sadly, they were later torn apart by Allie's wealthy family for Noah was poor and from a different class. The story follows on what happens when they meet again 14 years later.
Sparks unfolds the story skillfully by employing flashback techniques
It is one of the most romantic love stories describing beautifully a passionate love and relationship. The concept is brilliant but Sparks writes in a very simple language not leaving anything unexplained and describing things in excruciating detail, thereby not leaving anything to reader’s imagination. So if you are in the mood for a good love story, give The Notebook a shot.
