Celebrated American comic book artist and children’s book illustrator, Jon J Ruth was born on July 28, 1960. His works include Dracula: A Mystery in Moonlight and Nightmares; The Mystery Play (with Grant Morrison); The Mythology of an Abandoned City; The Sandman: The Wake (with Neil Gaiman); The Complete Moonshadow (with J. M. DeMatteis); Swamp Thing; Havok and Wolverine; Global Frequency: Planet Ablaze; New Mutants (with Louise Simonson); and Silver Surfer (with with J. M. DeMatteis). His children’s works include The Three Questions; Stone Soup; Zen Shorts; Zen Ties; and Zen Ghosts. He has also illustrated books, such as Come on, Rain (with Karen Hesse); Putnam and Pennyroyal (Patrick Jennings); Gershon's Monster: A Story for the Jewish New Year (with author Eric A. Kimmel); Why I Will Never Ever Ever Ever Have Enough Time to Read This Book (with Remy Charlip); Our Gracie Aunt (with Jacqueline Woodson); Old Turtle and the Broken Truth (with author Douglas Wood); No Dogs Allowed (Sonia Manzano); A Family of Poems: My Favorite Poetry for Children (with Caroline Kennedy); I Will Hold You 'till You Sleep (with Linda Zuckerman); Mr. George Baker (with Amy Hest); The Christmas Magic (with Lauren Thompson); and City Dog, Country Frog (with Mo Willems).

 

Muth won a Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators in 1999. He studied the art of stone sculpture in Japan and painting, printmaking, and drawing in England, Austria and Germany.
