Faraaz Kazi, a new age author with a passion for the written word recently graced Sympulse 2011 (the annual fest of SCMS (UG)) with his presence, to interact with the young crowd, judge the Creative and Poetry Writing Competitions, and to promote his new book, “TRULY, MADLY, DEEPLY”.
Faraaz caused a flurry of excitement amongst eager fans as they awaited an opportunity to interact with him; and ask him questions related to his book, his writing career, experiences and other aspects of his life, of course.
After declaring the names of the winners of the competition, Faraaz handed out signed copies of his novel to each of them, and to a few of his fans as well.
On being asked whether the book was autobiographical, Faraaz smiled and answered that every author’s first book is in some way autobiographical, as a writer finds it easier to draw from his own experiences and transform them into something worth reading.
On revealing that he is currently pursuing a post graduate degree in management studies in Mumbai, he was promptly asked “How does one go from being a management student to a published author?” Faraaz confessed that he does not believe that management and writing are two abstract fields, but in fact integrated.
On a departing note, Faraaz advised budding authors to never lose faith at any point in life. He encouraged them to never give up or let go their dreams. “One should always dream big,” he said.
It was an enriching experience to have him at SCMS (UG) and mingle with budding writers. The ease and humility with which he interacted with the students and answered their queries revealed quite a bit about this prolific author.
(In an age where cynicism abounds and love has sprouted dismal connotations, Faraaz Kazi has emerged like a phoenix from the ashes to restore faith in love and the importance of happy endings. Truly, madly, deeply is about a teenage boy falling in love and getting his heart broken for the first time. It sends the reader on a reminiscent journey of their own encounters with first love, broken hearts, blossoming relationships and the fear of loss.)
