41 Not Out: World Book Fair 2013, Delhi

Post by: Snehith Kumbla

It was in 1972, 41 years ago, that the World Book Fair was first held in Delhi at the Windsor Place, New Delhi. That year, the event saw 200 participants. Cut now to the World Book Fair 2013, inaugurated as it was by Dr. Shashi Tharoor, MP, the Minister for State, HRD on February 4th. As it has been for several years now, Pragati Maidan again serves as the venue for the fair.

Over 1,100 stalls shall be at display at the fair. This is inclusive of over 2000 stalls from 28 other countries. These countries include South Korea, UK, Singapore, Turkey, Pakistan, US, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The National Book Trust (NBT) is the fair organiser along with India Trade Promotion Organisation. As a sign of changing times, e-books also feature at the fair: publishers, content providers and e-book developers are already making their presence felt here.

The book fair used to be a biennial affair, now it shall be held every year.
