Launch of Stilettos in the Newsroom

Post by: BookChums

Author-cum-journalist Rashmi Kumar’s first book “Stilettos in the Newsroom” was recently launched at the hands of Padmashree Lila Poonawalla at Landmark bookstore, Pune. Madhur Bhandarkar, acclaimed director launched her book in Mumbai on April 21st.

Rashmi Kumar was born in Pune, and  graduated from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi, with a degree in English Literature. She later pursued a degree in journalism. Her first book Stilettos in the Newsroom, published by Rupa and Co is a racy and lively account of a bubbly 28-year-old journalist, Radhika Kanetkar right from the time she took her first step into the newsroom, got her first story, made bloopers and handled pressures to meet deadlines. In the midst of all this, Radhika experiences a journey of triumph, anguish, jealousy and of course finds her true love, Sameer.

For aspiring journos and those who want to make their mark in the field, this book provides a humorous take on what goes on behind the scenes and how to accept it and rise above all of it, with a pinch of salt. Written in the first person, it has an engaging narrative, peppered with small doses of drama, friendly cross fire and passionate affairs.

Before becoming a writer, Rashmi (among other things) also worked with an NGO. Now, other than being a full-time journalist, she also spends her time doing a weekly show on the radio and spends most of her Saturdays volunteering at an NGO for the mentally distressed and suicidal. When she is not pursuing these two passions, she takes off to pursue her other calling in life – to travel. A great fan of Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Amitav Ghosh, Rashmi is a travel addict and packs up a journey the moment she gets free.

Rashmi started her career in journalism in 2002 and currently works with Business India.
