The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins

In this fast-paced mystery, eyewitnesses each tell what they know about an enormous diamond that is taken out of India and sent to London where it disappears. The story revolves around who really owns the diamond. The book, first published in 1868, is often called the first detective novel and is one of the author's most critically-acclaimed works.
