Elwyn Brooks White, popularly known as EB White was born on July 11, 1899 at Mount Vernon in New York. His most famous works include Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, The Lady is Cold, Subtreasury of American Humor, One Man's Meat, The Wild Flag, Here is New York, The second Tree from the Corner, The Elements of Style, The Points of my Compass, In the Words of EB White, Poems and Sketches of EB White, Letters of EB White and The Trumpet of the Swan. He attended Cornell University from where he received a BA.


White started his career at the United Press International. He also worked with American Legion News service and The Seattle Times. He was a recipient of many awards including Presidential Medal of Freedom, American Academy of Arts and Letters Gold Medal, Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, National Medal for Literature, L.L. Winship/PEN New England Award and Pulitzer Prize Special Citation for Letters. He died on October 1, 1985.
