How to look for a Good Comic-Fantasy Book

While some authors are synonymous with comic-fantasy fiction, it is worthwhile to spend some time looking for books by lesser-known comic-fantasy authors too. One could stumble into a book that is equivalent to a Thursday Next or a Nursery Crime . Such a book could be a pleasure to begin with and open a reader’s mind to a new frontier of imagination. It thrills the senses and leaves the reader yearning for more of such literature. Comic fantasies bring humor into people’s lives and one reason for it is due to their usage of puns and quirky language although parodying other works of literature.




This article covers a few writers and works in this genre. However the Internet is a refuge for further enlightenment.  Therefore finding or choosing a good comic-fantasy book is not difficult. The audience has a plethora of options; all you need is the keenness to explore.

 
 

Comic fantasy is also referred to as Low Fantasy due to its comic humor. But not all low-fantasy works are humorous. A lot of comic-fantasy books focus on medieval folklore and nursery rhymes. Jasper Fforde has created some of his most adorable and devilish characters from nursery rhymes. Some of the most popular comic-fantasy works are: the Thursday Next series, The Last Dragon Slayer, andShades of Grey by Jasper Fforde, the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Love Songs for the Shy and Cynical by Robert Shearman, Falling Sideways by Tom Holt, and Demon Squad by Tim Marquitz. There are several other authors too whose works are commendable, unique, and hell-raising funny.

 
 

To begin with a comic-fantasy book, one can select a Jasper Fforde or Terry Pratchett book and decipher if they enjoy it. To enjoy a comic-fantasy book, the reader needs to have a taste for language bordering on lunacy and eccentricity; in this way, comic-fantasy fiction is a terrific read. This genre is constantly evolving and its beauty lies in its language and tongue-in-cheek and spoofy humor.


 

An assortment of some works is: A Bad Spell in Yurt, The Roadkill of Middle Earth, The Soddit, Barry Trotter and the Unauthorized Parody, Little Myth Market, The Kedrigern Chronicles, A Farce to be reckoned with, and so on. Robert Rankin is another must-read author and Snuff Fiction is a true delight.


 

Comic-fantasy writers write on a wide range of topics from mainly myths and legends, occult, science, urban legends, steampunk to paranormal romance to list a few. This reason is reason enough for readers to try comic-fantasy books. It keeps one’s mind amused and kicking. Further it gets easier to choose a book after understanding the variety of what this genre offers.
