Born on March 28, 1936 in Peru, he became famous in the literary world with his works such as The Time of the Hero, The Green House and Conversation in the Cathedral among other works. He has also written The Way to Paradise based on the French impressionist painter Paul Gauguin; and Flora Tristan, Gauguin’s grandmother and social reformer and writer. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2010. He has written in versatile genres such as essays, comedies, murder mysteries, historical novels, and political thrillers. He has also been a recipient of several other awards such as Rómulo Gallegos Prize, Grinzane Cavour Prize, Prince of Asturias Award, Planeta Prize, Miguel de Cervantes Prize, Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, Independent Foreign Fiction Prize, Maria Moors Cabot Prize, International Award Viareggio-Versilia, Carlos Fuentes International Prize for Literary Creation in the Spanish Language, Grand Cross with Diamonds of the Order of the Sun, Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, Chevalier of the Legion of Honour, Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, Commander of the Order of the Aztec Eagle, Grand Cross with Silver Star of the Order of Ruben Dario, and Grand Cross with Silver Star of the Order of Christopher Columbus among others.

 

 

Llosa has written most of his historical novels based on his own experiences. This is what makes his writings very special.
