BookChums features Abid Surti on Award Thursdays this week. He is a painter, writer, cartoonist, journalist, environmentalist, playwright and screenwriter. Synonymous with the Indrajal comic character Bahadur, he has also written novels and short stories in Hindi, Gujarati and English. His writings include The Black Book, In Name of Rama, The Golf Widow, He is Radha, Munchon Wali Begam, Kathavachak, Adhi Stri, Bahattar Saal Ka Bachcha, Besabab, Biswin Sadi Ka Akhiri Dashak, Aadmi aur Chuhe, Chamatkari Ladaki, Caibre Dancer, Charitraheen, Daag, Dastoor, Kale Gulab, Kapurush Mahapurush and Khoya Hua Chehra. He has written more than 80 books, including 45 novels, 10 short story collections and 7 plays. 

Abid Surti was born in 1935 in Gujarat. His autobiographical novel Musalman is based on his childhood at Dongri in Mumbai. He attended JJ School of Art. He is a recipient of several awards including National Award, Hindi Sahitya Sanstha Award and Gujarat Gaurav.
