David McCullough is an American historian, narrator, historian and lecturer. He was born on July 7, 1933 at Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. As a child, his parents and his grandmother introduced him to the world of books. In 1951, he enrolled himself at Yale University. He had earlier mentioned that it was a 'privilege' to study English at Yale because of its faculty members including John O'Hara, John Hersey, Robert Penn Warren and Brendan Gill. He graduated with a degree in English Honors. 


McCullough started his career at Sports Illustrated in New York. Later he decided to turn to writing full-time. His works include The Johnstown Flood, The Great Bridge, The Path Between the Seas, Mornings on Horseback, Brave Companions, Truman, John Adams, 1776, In the Dark Streets Shineth: A 1941 Christmas Eve Story and The Greater Journey. He has been a recipient of many awards including National Book Award, Francis Parkman Prize, Samuel Eliot Morison Award, Cornelius Ryan Award, Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography, The Colonial Dames of America Annual Book Award, Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography and American Compass Best Book. Today, he lives in Boston with his wife, Rosalee Barnes McCullough.
