BookChums users meet

Post by: Bookchums

July 18, 2012, Pune, India: BookChums, a privately-run website for book lovers to connect, had organized a users’ meet where city-based booklovers assembled and threw light on their reading patterns and choices. It was heartening to see so many youngsters (18-35 age group) prefer a physical book in a world where several readers were opting for ebooks and audio books.

Most users were delighted by the features BookChums offered. One of our users went to the extent of calling our website “Facebook of Books”. A few other users acknowledged that BookChums was a one-stop-solution for checking book reviews out, looking for book events and also buying books at a discounted price.

At the meet, users stressed on going in for a more personalized reading and shopping experience in order to enjoy books online. Users felt that suggesting without manipulating choices in accordance to users’ passions and interests will probably get them to visit the website again.

During the interactive session many users also shared what prompts them to buy a book. While most said they do not refer to book reviews at all, some said peer recommendations helped. A majority of them said that they relied on the synopsis and the quality of the reading experience to purchase a book.

Further the users loved the fact that the website gave them an opportunity to read meaty interviews uploaded every Monday where authors reveal a lot of hidden facts about themselves, their families and their writing style. Recently BookChums interviewed Anita Nair, Lata Gwalani, Deepti Naval, Sagarika Chakraborty  and Mita Kapur, who were all talented yet diverse authors.
